Does ichthyosis pose any health risks?
Disease description:
Over the past two days, I’ve noticed my skin has become very rough and is frequently shedding flakes. After visiting the hospital for an examination, I was diagnosed with ichthyosis. I’m quite frightened—does ichthyosis pose any health risks?
Ichthyosis typically impairs skin function, resulting in rough, dry skin; severe cases may also cause pruritus. Additionally, some patients may develop alopecia areata, nail dystrophy, abnormal eyelid closure, or punctate corneal opacities—leading to blurred vision. In more severe cases, secondary infections may occur, accompanied by systemic symptoms such as fever or chills.
