Disease description:

My husband went fishing yesterday. He fished outdoors at noon when the temperature reached 30°C. After returning home, he said he might have heatstroke. I noticed he indeed seemed unwell, but I couldn’t tell exactly what was wrong. Could you please tell me the early symptoms of heatstroke?

Dr. Wang Mingxuan
Symptoms of heat exhaustion—often considered a precursor to heatstroke—typically occur during hot summer weather or in environments characterized by high temperature, high humidity, and poor ventilation. These symptoms include headache, dizziness, thirst, excessive sweating, generalized body aches, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, impaired coordination, and normal or slightly elevated body temperature. This constellation of signs indicates the onset of heat exhaustion, and prompt action is essential: immediately move the individual to a cool, well-ventilated environment. Administer cool, salted water or electrolyte-containing sports drinks, and use fans or air conditioning. Most individuals recover rapidly with these measures and typically do not require hospital treatment.
