What is Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS)?
Disease description:
I’ve had recurrent fevers and abdominal discomfort recently. After examination, I was diagnosed with hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS). Could you please explain what HFRS is?
Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS) is a viral infectious disease primarily transmitted by rodents. In the early stage of the disease, patients typically present with mild fever, gastrointestinal discomfort, and respiratory tract infection symptoms. As the disease progresses, patients may enter a hypotensive shock phase characterized by decreased blood pressure, tachypnea, generalized convulsions, and widespread hemorrhage. Prompt treatment is essential; without timely intervention, severe cases can be fatal. Treatment primarily involves antiviral therapy, supplemented by symptomatic and supportive medications tailored to the patient’s specific clinical manifestations.
