Can metronidazole gel be applied thickly?
Disease description:
A relative of mine—aunt—has been diagnosed with rosacea. Her doctor recommended applying metronidazole gel. May I ask whether metronidazole gel can be applied thickly?
Metronidazole gel can be applied in a thick layer. Primarily used topically for its anti-inflammatory effects, metronidazole gel treats conditions such as acne, papules, and vaginitis. Applying it thickly to the affected area provides a certain degree of anti-inflammatory benefit; however, thick application is not mandatory—uniform local application is also effective in alleviating symptoms. Patients should maintain good local hygiene, follow a balanced diet, avoid greasy foods (e.g., fried chicken and fatty meats), and refrain from smoking, alcohol consumption, and staying up late.
