Disease description:

I often experience tinnitus and hearing loss, symptoms that seem similar to those of chronic otitis media. Could you please tell me what the symptoms of chronic otitis media are?

Dr. Xu Gang
Chronic otitis media typically presents with progressive hearing loss, otorrhea (purulent discharge), tinnitus, and a sensation of ear fullness or blockage—often recurring. Initially, patients may be asymptomatic, with hearing loss being the primary manifestation. Later, purulent discharge from the ear develops; when bacterial infection is present, ear pain may occur. The discharge may be mucopurulent or purely purulent, and sometimes malodorous. Hearing loss of varying degrees commonly occurs, predominantly conductive or mixed hearing loss.
