How is chronic otitis media treated?
Chronic otitis media was diagnosed, and it keeps recurring. I've seen many doctors, but none of the treatments have been very effective. I'd like to know how chronic otitis media should be properly treated.

The treatment of chronic otitis media requires a comprehensive evaluation based on the individual patient's condition. It is important to keep the ear dry and avoid water or other liquids entering the ear. Regularly clean ear secretions gently using a cotton swab. Additionally, adjust the diet to be light and avoid spicy or irritating foods.
For chronic otitis media caused by bacterial infection, doctors may prescribe antibiotics to control the infection. Furthermore, steroid nasal sprays or ear drops may help reduce inflammation and swelling. If allergic factors are present, antihistamines may also be recommended. Topical medications such as ofloxacin ear drops and lomefloxacin hydrochloride ear drops can directly reach the affected area to provide anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects.
When medical treatment is ineffective or complications exist, such as tympanic membrane perforation or cholesteatoma formation, surgical intervention may be necessary. Common procedures include tympanoplasty and mastoidectomy, aiming to restore hearing and prevent complications.
Patients experiencing hearing loss may need to undergo hearing tests and, based on the results, use hearing aids or participate in hearing rehabilitation training.
