Why Do Tonsils Suddenly Become Inflamed—and What Should You Do?
Disease description:
I was perfectly fine yesterday, but today I suddenly felt pain in my tonsils and discovered I had tonsillitis. Why does tonsillitis occur so suddenly, and what should I do?
Acute tonsillitis is typically caused by infection and is usually treated with anti-infective medications. First, maintain good oral hygiene by brushing teeth daily. Penicillin-based antibiotics may be prescribed for anti-infective therapy, alongside regular physical exercise. Surgical removal (tonsillectomy) may be indicated if the tonsils are excessively enlarged and impair swallowing. If symptoms worsen, antibiotic therapy is required to combat infection—this may be administered either orally or intravenously—to alleviate pharyngeal symptoms.
