What is the best treatment for otitis media?
Disease description:
My boyfriend recently developed otitis media, and home remedies haven’t helped. What is the most effective treatment for otitis media?
Otitis media is treated with medications, surgery, and other modalities. For suppurative otitis media, the purulent discharge in the ear canal is irrigated with hydrogen peroxide, and topical antibiotics such as levofloxacin ear drops may also be administered. In contrast, granular (ulcerative) otitis media and cholesteatoma-associated otitis media require surgical intervention to completely remove the pathological lesions—thereby preventing intracranial and extracranial complications—and potentially improving hearing.
