Disease description:

My child is 20 years old, but his testicles don't seem to have developed to the normal size of a typical young man. The doctor said it's underdevelopment. What is testicular hypoplasia?

Dr. Li Mingchuan
Testicular dysgenesis may be due to cryptorchidism or ectopic testis, in which elevated local testicular temperature leads to impaired spermatogenesis and consequently poor testicular development. Viral orchitis, testicular tissue edema caused by high fever, and testicular fibrosis secondary to mumps-associated orchitis must be ruled out. Varicoceles and pituitary tumors causing testicular abnormalities are usually treated surgically, supplemented by medical therapy to promote ongoing testicular development.
