Mild anal fissures typically present symptoms such as constipation and rectal bleeding. Generally, anal fissures cause a cyclical pain associated with bowel movements, as the passing stool irritates the nerve endings in the ulcerated area during defecation. However, the pain usually subsides quickly after using the toilet. With subsequent bowel movements, severe pain reoccurs, and the shorter the interval between bowel movements, the longer the pain may persist. Patients are advised to consume more vegetables and fruits in daily diet.
