Disease description:

I went to the hospital for treatment today because a few days ago, I might have strained too much during bowel movements, causing an anal fissure. The doctor said it's not severe and will gradually get better. May I ask how many days it takes to heal from a mild anal fissure?

Dr. Li Jingxiang
The healing time for mild anal fissures varies depending on individual differences and care practices. Generally, mild anal fissures can heal spontaneously within 7 to 14 days. If the patient is in good physical condition and maintains proper local hygiene—such as sitz baths with potassium permanganate, avoiding spicy and irritating foods, and ensuring smooth bowel movements—spontaneous healing may occur in as little as about 7 days. However, if the patient has a weaker constitution or does not pay sufficient attention to hygiene and dietary adjustments, it may take longer—approximately 14 days—for the lesion to heal. If symptoms such as redness, swelling, or pain develop during recovery, prompt medical consultation is recommended.
