At what age should vitamin D supplementation begin?
Disease description:
I've heard that children should start supplementing vitamin D early. From what age should vitamin D supplementation begin?
It is recommended to start supplementing the child with vitamin D from age 1. This is a very important nutrient and belongs to the fat-soluble vitamins. Infants and young children grow rapidly, and a lack of vitamin D can lead to slow growth and poor dental development. Severe deficiency of vitamin D may result in kyphosis (hunchback). Generally, starting two weeks after birth, children should receive adequate vitamin D supplementation as recommended by health authorities, continuing until age 2.
