How many days does it take for swelling to subside after a sprained ankle?
Disease description:
The child has just learned to walk and twisted their foot while walking alone without an adult nearby. The foot is now badly swollen. How many days does it take for the swelling to go down after a sprain?
It usually takes about one week. After the above symptoms occur, timely cold compress for 10 to 20 minutes is recommended. This can constrict local blood vessels, thereby reducing local bleeding and swelling. If the ankle sprain is not severe, adequate rest combined with proper treatment generally leads to resolution of swelling within about one week. One to two days after injury, gentle foot soaking, as well as local shortwave or infrared radiation therapy, may be performed to promote symptom relief.
