Disease description:

Grandma felt chest pain and went to the hospital for an electrocardiogram (ECG), which showed she has some premature beats. We're worried that she might have coronary heart disease. Could you please tell us whether chest pain with premature beats indicates coronary heart disease?

Dr. Zhang Jianbin
Premature beats and cardiac pain are not necessarily coronary heart disease. Coronary heart disease primarily involves atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries, leading to narrowed blood vessels and resulting in myocardial ischemia, hypoxia, or even necrosis. If there is no problem with blood supply to the heart, symptoms may simply include premature beats accompanied by chest pain. By using antiarrhythmic medications to control the condition, symptoms of premature beats can be improved.
