Is fallopian tube ultrasound contrast painful?
Disease description:
I've been married for 5 years and haven't been able to get pregnant. After an examination, I was diagnosed with blocked fallopian tubes. A friend suggested that I go to the hospital for further evaluation. The doctor recommended a hysterosalpingo-contrast-ultrasonography (HyCoSy). Is this procedure painful?
Hysterosalpingography is a minimally invasive procedure that typically causes pain, although the level of discomfort varies from person to person. Clinically, the majority of individuals experience pain, but it is generally tolerable and usually subsides within half an hour after the radiographic examination. The degree of pain sensitivity is related to individual physical constitution. Vaginal bleeding and a sensation of rolling abdominal pain may occur for about two to three days after the procedure, but these symptoms generally do not last longer than one week. If discomfort persists for more than one week after hysterosalpingography, timely medical evaluation and treatment are recommended.
