Disease description:

I was recently diagnosed with synovitis, which the doctor said is a condition caused by knee sprains or various intra-articular injuries. The symptoms of synovitis vary at each stage of the disease and also differ among its various types. What are the symptoms of synovitis with fluid accumulation?

Dr. Lin Yunfei
Knee joint synovial effusion mainly manifests as joint swelling, pain, and aching discomfort. In the early stage, when the amount of effusion is small, symptoms may not be obvious. Typically, aching discomfort in the joint occurs after prolonged walking, which can usually be relieved with appropriate rest. Small amounts of fluid can often be absorbed spontaneously. As the disease progresses further, synovial effusion may gradually increase. When the fluid reaches a certain volume, symptoms of joint pain and swelling progressively worsen, and the walking distance gradually decreases. This leads to persistent joint swelling and pain that becomes difficult to fully relieve even with rest.
