What to do about constipation in a breastfed and formula-fed baby
Disease description:
My baby is already 3 years old. A friend suggested that my child's condition might be due to mixed feeding, which made me anxious, so I took the baby to the hospital. The doctor diagnosed it as constipation. So, what should I do if a mixed-fed baby has constipation?
For infants with constipation undergoing mixed feeding, it is recommended to reduce food intake, increase water consumption, and use methods such as abdominal massage. It is advised to decrease overall food intake by skipping one meal and reducing the amount of complementary foods. The volume of milk given to the baby should be moderately reduced while increasing the sugar content, and some appropriate complementary foods can be added. Encourage the infant to drink more warm water and strengthen care to avoid shock or adverse stimuli. Parents can gently massage the baby's abdomen in a clockwise direction using the palm, which helps promote intestinal motility and relieve constipation. Additionally, symptomatic treatments such as umbilical patches may also be used.
