Endometrial biopsy may cause discomfort or pain. Under normal circumstances, most women can tolerate it. Generally, anesthesia is not required for this procedure, although local anesthesia may be used when necessary to reduce discomfort. When endometrial tissue is obtained via hysteroscopy, anesthetic agents are typically used, so the patient does not feel pain. After completing an endometrial biopsy, patients may experience light bleeding, which usually resolves within 3 to 5 days.
