Dysmenorrhea in girls is generally caused by poor menstrual flow or consumption of cold foods. If women do not keep warm, are exposed to cold, or consume excessive amounts of cold food, chilled items, or iced beverages around the time of menstruation, it may lead to menstrual pain. Additionally, during menstruation, the shedding of the uterine lining releases large amounts of prostaglandins, which stimulate uterine contractions and result in dysmenorrhea.
