Dysmenorrhea is a medical condition, usually caused by cold constitution or other underlying diseases. There are many causes of dysmenorrhea, which can be classified into primary and secondary dysmenorrhea. Primary dysmenorrhea refers to menstrual pain in which no abnormalities are found upon examination. This type is generally mild and mainly treated symptomatically with medication. The other type, secondary dysmenorrhea, often develops secondary to various organic diseases such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, or endometritis, and requires prompt diagnosis and treatment at a hospital.
