What causes bleeding after a cervical examination?
Disease description:
Today I went with my best friend to get a cervical examination, but on the way home she suddenly started bleeding. What causes bleeding after a cervical exam?
Bleeding after a cervical examination may be due to cervical polyps, which are typically bright red, friable, and prone to bleeding upon contact. However, because the cervix may have minor injuries after the examination, slight bleeding is common and can last for 2–3 days; as long as the amount of bleeding is minimal, it is generally not a concern. Sexual intercourse should be avoided until vaginal bleeding has completely resolved to prevent worsening of bleeding or potential infection.
