Second- or third-generation cephalosporins can be selected for the treatment of enteritis. Enteritis is primarily caused by Gram-negative bacillary infection. First-generation cephalosporins mainly target Gram-positive cocci, whereas second- and third-generation cephalosporins have broad-spectrum activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Therefore, patients with enteritis should be treated with second- or third-generation cephalosporin antibiotics.
