Is chronic adnexitis related to having an intrauterine device (IUD) inserted?
Disease description:
I previously had an intrauterine device (IUD) inserted at the hospital, but now I've been diagnosed with chronic adnexitis. I would like to ask whether chronic adnexitis is related to having an IUD?
Chronic adnexitis is somewhat related to the use of intrauterine devices (IUDs). If anti-inflammatory treatment is not administered prior to IUD insertion, retrograde uterine infection may occur after placement, potentially leading to chronic adnexitis. Active treatment is required for chronic adnexitis, primarily involving antibiotic medications such as cefixime, cefuroxime, and metronidazole. During treatment, patients are advised to abstain from sexual intercourse to avoid interfering with recovery.
