Why does itching get worse with continued use of Nifuratel?
Disease description:
Abnormal vaginal discharge with an unpleasant odor and some itching of the vulva. I went to the hospital for a routine vaginal discharge test, which showed vaginitis. The doctor prescribed nitrofurantoin (Nitrofurantoin). Today marks the fourth day of use, but I haven't felt any better—in fact, the itching has worsened. Why does nitrofurantoin make the itching worse?
Itching may worsen with nitrofurantoin use due to an allergic reaction. Nitrofurantoin has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and is used to treat trichomonal vaginitis, candidal vaginitis, and mixed vaginal infections. However, it may cause itching of the vaginal mucosa and vaginal opening. In such cases, clean the external genitalia with warm water first, then take alternative medications as needed. Avoid scratching the external genital area with hands. Change underwear frequently, preferably choosing pure cotton material, and soak them in hot water; avoid direct sunlight exposure for drying. Avoid spicy, greasy, raw, cold, and irritating foods. Perform regular vaginal discharge examinations.
