The difficulty in inserting nitrofurantoin vaginal tablets may be caused by several factors. First, the drug concentration may be too high, or the mixture of the medication with vaginal secretions may become viscous, increasing insertion difficulty. Second, vaginal dryness—common in postmenopausal women or those long-term using oral contraceptives—can make it hard for the medication to enter smoothly. Additionally, if the medication is too cold, it may become more viscous. To improve administration, consider adjusting the insertion technique: adopt a squatting position and wear a finger cot to reduce friction; use warm water wipes or sitz baths to stimulate vaginal mucosal secretion and alleviate dryness. If vaginal dryness is severe, lubricants such as glycerin may be used under medical guidance to assist insertion. Always follow your doctor’s instructions carefully and avoid altering the method or dosage of medication without consultation.
