Urinary tract stones can cause renal colic, which is a relatively common symptom of such stones. Renal colic typically occurs when a stone becomes lodged and compresses the narrow segments of the ureter. The pain is often severe and should be treated promptly. Before treatment, an ultrasound examination should be performed to determine the size and location of the stone. If the stone is relatively large, with a diameter exceeding 6 mm, surgical intervention is usually required.
