The method for removing urinary tract stones primarily depends on the size, location of the stone, and the individual's physical condition. For stones smaller than 0.6 cm in diameter and with smooth surfaces, increasing fluid intake along with taking lithotripsy medications (such as Shitai granules or Jieshi Tong capsules) can help facilitate the natural passage of stones through urine. When stones are larger in size or medication proves ineffective, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) may be used to break the stones into smaller pieces that can then be passed in the urine. For stones larger than 2 cm or when ESWL is ineffective, surgical intervention is recommended, such as percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) or flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy. During treatment, patients should maintain healthy dietary habits to prevent stone recurrence.
