Hello,
The patient may experience muscle aches in the limbs, which are associated with extensive muscle cell destruction. This often manifests as significant muscle pain—sometimes severe enough to be intolerable. The patient may develop gross hematuria or dark brown (cola-colored) urine, resulting from the release of myoglobin following muscle cell breakdown. Acute kidney injury may also occur; the most common cause is myoglobin-induced tubular obstruction. Clinical manifestations include oliguria, edema, and, in severe cases, anuria. Dialysis therapy should be considered when clinically indicated.
