What happens if gallbladder swelling becomes severe?
Disease description:
My husband has gallbladder swelling, but since his symptoms were mild, we didn't pay much attention. Recently, during a check-up, it was found to have worsened. So, what happens when gallbladder swelling becomes more severe?
If a gallbladder cyst becomes severe, it may develop into cholecystitis or gallstones. This occurs when the cyst enlarges and, if located near the neck of the gallbladder, compresses the area, obstructing normal bile drainage and causing bile to accumulate within the gallbladder. Over time, this accumulation may lead to gallstone formation. If the retained bile causes infection in the gallbladder, cholecystitis may result. Therefore, early removal of the gallbladder cyst is recommended to prevent disease progression.
