Disease description:

For the past few months, my menstrual flow has been very heavy each time. After a hospital checkup, I found out it was due to thickened endometrium. I would like to consult: why does the endometrium become thickened?

During the reproductive years, women's ovaries regularly secrete estrogen and progesterone. Under the influence of estrogen, the endometrium enters the proliferative phase and gradually thickens. After ovulation, the corpus luteum in the ovary secretes additional estrogen, causing further thickening of the endometrium. Endometrial thickening may also result from endometrial hyperplasia or endometrial adenomatous changes, which mainly occur in adolescent and perimenopausal women. Additionally, it could indicate endometrial cancer, which typically presents as abnormal uterine bleeding and is often associated with an endometrial thickness exceeding 2 centimeters.
