What should be done for synovitis with fluid accumulation?
Disease description:
My husband may have synovitis, as he constantly feels fluid accumulation in his knee. What should be done about fluid buildup in synovitis?
Synovitis with effusion can be treated with oral blood-activating and stasis-resolving medications, as well as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Additionally, elevating the affected limb and applying heat to the joint area can help. With proper treatment, symptoms of synovitis and fluid accumulation will gradually resolve. Severe cases of synovitis may require surgical intervention, including incision and intra-articular debridement. After surgery, early functional exercises of the joint should be strengthened to prevent adhesions in the muscle tissues.
