What is the difference between ovulation period and ovulation day?
Disease description:
Recently, my husband and I have been trying to conceive. I've heard that having intercourse during the ovulation period increases the chances of pregnancy. I'd like to ask: what's the difference between the ovulation period and the ovulation day?
The main difference between the ovulation period and ovulation day lies in their duration. The ovulation period generally refers to a span of several days during which conception is possible, not limited solely to the ovulation day itself. This is because sperm can survive for 2–3 days, while an egg remains viable for only 1–2 days. Therefore, the time frame—typically including the four days before ovulation day and the three days after—is considered the "fertile window" or ovulation period, when the likelihood of pregnancy is highest. In contrast, ovulation day specifically refers to the exact day on which ovulation occurs; whichever day that happens to be is called the ovulation day.
