Chronic external otitis is difficult to cure because it frequently recurs. Patients may use sodium bicarbonate solution to thoroughly clean and soften visible secretions in the external auditory canal. It is advisable to avoid ear picking in daily life to prevent cross-infection, and to keep the ear canal dry. Chronic external otitis may also cause ear pain or hearing loss; patients can visit a regular otorhinolaryngology clinic for examination and subsequent anti-inflammatory treatment.
