How to promote self-healing of otitis externa
Disease description:
The other day, I cleaned my ear too forcefully and experienced pain for a while. Later, my ear became increasingly uncomfortable, so I went to the hospital. The doctor diagnosed me with otitis externa and mentioned it might heal on its own. Could you please advise what can help promote self-healing of otitis externa?
Taking oral symptomatic medication can help otitis externa heal on its own. Otitis externa may be caused by bacterial or fungal infection. Mild inflammatory infections might gradually resolve spontaneously, but in most cases, medical treatment is required. For bacterial infections, apply erythromycin ointment and keep the affected area clean and dry, avoiding dirty water entering the ear during hair washing. For fungal otitis externa, fluconazole ointment can be applied.
