Dwarfism and short stature are not different—they are the same condition. Dwarfism is a group of chronic disorders affecting growth and development, caused by diseases or genetic factors. This condition may result from genetic inheritance, variations during normal growth and development, or delayed growth and development. It can also be caused by growth hormone deficiency, gastrointestinal diseases, precocious puberty, inherited metabolic disorders, malnutrition, or glucocorticoid treatment.
