The difference between vulvitis and vaginitis lies in their symptoms. Vulvitis causes itching and pain in the external genital skin, along with localized redness and swelling. Vaginitis leads to abnormal vaginal discharge, often accompanied by itching of the vulva or vagina. The causes also differ: vulvitis is an inflammation of the skin of the external genitalia, while vaginitis results from imbalances in the vaginal microbial flora and infections caused by various pathogens.
