Emphysema generally does not cause left shoulder pain. After the onset of emphysema, patients may experience decreased lung function, leading to abnormal symptoms such as chest tightness, shortness of breath, coughing, and sputum production, but left shoulder pain is not typically associated with this condition. Left shoulder pain may instead be due to coexisting pleuritis or trauma to the left shoulder. It is recommended that patients actively address the underlying cause.
