Can you exercise after pectus excavatum surgery?
Disease description:
I've been used to working out regularly before. I had pectus excavatum surgery a few days ago, and I personally feel that I've recovered quite well. Can I start exercising again?
After pectus excavatum surgery, early exercise is not recommended. The procedure involves placing several metal plates inside the body, and if physical training—especially chest-expanding exercises—is started too soon, before the plates have securely stabilized within the body, it may cause the plates to loosen and impair recovery. It is advised to wait at least six months after pectus excavatum surgery before resuming fitness activities.
