The normal range for strabismus angle is within ±5 degrees. If the strabismus angle is greater than 5 degrees but less than 15 degrees, it is considered mild strabismus. In such cases, treatment generally involves cycloplegic refraction and synoptophore examination followed by strabismus rehabilitation training to correct small deviations. When the strabismus angle exceeds 15 degrees, it is classified as a large-angle strabismus, which typically requires surgical correction. Therefore, the normal range for strabismus angle is generally within ±5 degrees. Small strabismus angles usually have no significant impact on ocular alignment, visual acuity, or visual function. However, even when the strabismus angle falls within the normal range, cycloplegic refraction is still necessary. Cycloplegia helps relax the ciliary muscle, thereby revealing the true refractive error and actual magnitude of strabismus. The synoptophore examination further helps determine whether the strabismus angle lies within the normal range and whether optical correction or subsequent strabismus rehabilitation training is needed.
