Dr. Chen You
For the treatment of esotropia, any existing refractive errors should first be corrected. For example, in cases of hyperopia, the primary step is to correct the hyperopia by wearing glasses for 3–6 months. If the strabismus persists despite correction, surgical intervention may be considered. When esotropia is present, the underlying cause must be identified and treated accordingly. Addressing the primary condition may lead to gradual improvement or even resolution of the esotropia. If esotropia fails to improve after one year of treatment, surgery can be performed. However, in cases of comitant esotropia, such as accommodative esotropia, surgery is generally not recommended.
