Coagulation factors are various protein components that primarily participate in the blood clotting process. When a blood vessel wall ruptures and bleeding occurs, activated coagulation factors bind together with platelets to seal the break in the vessel. Most coagulation factors are produced by the liver. Therefore, chronic liver diseases such as hepatitis and cirrhosis often lead to deficiencies in coagulation factors, resulting in coagulation disorders. Clinically, coagulation disturbances caused by coagulation factor deficiency are often severe, manifesting as bruising, blood blisters, or even deep organ hemorrhage.
