Can pinkeye cause eye discomfort?
Disease description:
I had conjunctivitis recently. I've been feeling eye discomfort these past couple of days—could this be caused by the conjunctivitis?
When the inflammation of red eye disease is severe, it can cause eye pain. Red eye disease, also known as acute conjunctivitis, presents with symptoms such as redness of the eyes, foreign body sensation, burning, pain, photophobia, tearing, and increased secretions, though vision is generally unaffected. Ophthalmic examination of patients reveals acute conjunctival congestion, edema, papillary and follicular hyperplasia of the tarsal conjunctiva, and discharge in the conjunctival sac. In cases of severe ocular inflammation, hemorrhagic discharge and pseudomembranes on the tarsal conjunctiva may appear. The main treatment includes medications, topical anti-infective agents, antibiotic eye drops, or antiviral drugs.
