My child has developed conjunctivitis. A friend said that conjunctivitis is the same as "pink eye" and is contagious. Is childhood conjunctivitis the same as pink eye?

Childhood conjunctivitis can be considered a type of red eye disease, but not all forms of conjunctivitis are classified as such. Red eye disease mainly refers to dilation and congestion of blood vessels in the white part of the eye, causing it to appear red, hence the name "red eye disease." In the past, red eye disease specifically referred to epidemic hemorrhagic keratoconjunctivitis, which develops rapidly, spreads widely, and may cause severe discomfort. It is recommended to maintain good eye hygiene and avoid frequently rubbing the eyes with hands.
