Foot swelling and pain are not necessarily caused by gout; however, during a gout attack, swelling and pain in the ankle may occur. When foot swelling and pain appear, if they are not due to trauma, they might be caused by vascular diseases, although gout cannot be ruled out. It is recommended to seek medical evaluation at a hospital as early as possible to determine the exact cause. In the meantime, it is important to get adequate rest and avoid strenuous exercise.
