Dr. Yang Tiesheng
When swelling and pain occur in the foot, the following measures can be taken to alleviate symptoms: 1. Rest and elevation: Stop foot activities, rest more, and elevate the affected limb as much as possible. This helps promote venous return and reduce local swelling and pain. 2. Physical therapy: Apply cold compresses within 48 hours after injury to constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling and pain. After 48 hours, switch to heat therapy, such as steaming or infrared radiation, to promote blood circulation and accelerate swelling reduction. 3. Medication: If caused by trauma, topical ointments such as Sihuang Xiaozhong膏 (Sihuang Swelling-Reducing Ointment) or Xiaozhong Zhitong膏 (Swelling-Reducing and Pain-Relieving Ointment) can be used. For severe pain, oral painkillers such as ibuprofen or celecoxib can be taken under a doctor's guidance. If the condition is caused by bacterial infection, antibiotic medications are required. These measures should be implemented according to actual circumstances and medical advice. If symptoms persist or worsen, seek medical attention promptly.
