Why is plasma transfusion given for hepatic ascites?
Disease description:
My close friend was hospitalized due to ascites caused by liver disease. When I visited her at the hospital today, I noticed she was receiving plasma transfusion. I'd like to ask—why is plasma transfusion used for liver-related ascites?
The reason for plasma transfusion in cirrhosis is severe liver dysfunction leading to insufficient synthesis of coagulation factors. Plasma transfusion can improve abnormal coagulation function. The liver is an organ responsible for synthesis, metabolism, decomposition, and detoxification in the human body. It synthesizes plasma fibrinogen and various coagulation factors, such as factors V, VII, VIII, IX, and X, which play important roles in the physiological process of blood coagulation. Chronic liver disease, fulminant hepatitis, and similar conditions can lead to liver failure, poor hepatic functional reserve, and reduced capacity to synthesize coagulation factors.
