Is IgA vasculitis the same as IgA nephropathy?
Disease description:
A friend's father was diagnosed with IgA nephropathy. They want to know: Is IgA vasculitis the same as IgA nephropathy?
IgA nephropathy is different from vasculitis. IgA nephropathy is the most common primary glomerular disease and ranks first as the cause of end-stage renal disease in China. It tends to worsen after upper respiratory tract infections and shows familial clustering. Its pathological hallmark is the deposition of large polymeric underglycosylated IgA1-specific immune complexes in the glomeruli. The main clinical manifestations include hematuria, proteinuria, and renal dysfunction.
