Abnormal vaginal discharge can generally be treated with oral medications. Women experiencing abnormal vaginal discharge should promptly visit a hospital for a routine vaginal discharge examination. After diagnosis, local treatment is recommended. Patients may take daily sitz baths using potassium permanganate solution; in mild cases, warm saline solution can be used. Vaginal medications such as vaginal effervescent tablets, antimicrobial suppositories, and metronidazole suppositories may also be administered orally or vaginally.
