What sequelae can viral encephalitis leave behind?
Disease description:
Recently, I developed encephalitis due to a viral infection, and I'm a bit worried about potential long-term complications. I'd like to know what aftereffects viral encephalitis might leave behind?
Viral encephalitis generally results in motor dysfunction as a sequela. Some patients may also experience impairments in memory, logical reasoning, and computational abilities. In milder cases, patients commonly develop complications such as malnutrition, temperature fluctuations, and seizures. Additionally, sensory disturbances may occur, affecting hearing, vision, speech, and tactile perception. Therefore, although encephalitis is a disease of the brain, clinical symptoms vary depending on the affected areas of the brain.
