Disease description:

Vaginal bleeding during menstruation is normal, but if you experience bleeding at other times of the month—regardless of the amount—it should be taken seriously. Be vigilant for possible gynecological conditions and seek timely diagnosis and effective preventive or treatment measures. So, what causes abnormal bleeding outside the menstrual period?

There are many causes of abnormal bleeding outside of menstruation. One category includes abnormal pregnancies or pregnancy complications, such as miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy, poor uterine involution, retained placenta, placental polyps, or gestational trophoblastic disease, which can be diagnosed through medical history and blood or urine HCG testing. Tumors of the reproductive organs, such as endometrial cancer, cervical cancer, trophoblastic tumors, uterine fibroids, and ovarian tumors, may also cause bleeding. Infections of the genital tract, including acute vaginitis or acute and chronic endometritis, can lead to bleeding as well. Genital lacerations may result in bleeding, and irregular uterine bleeding can also be caused by improper use of hormonal medications, intrauterine devices (IUDs), or foreign bodies.
